Blog Hiatus

I know only a handful of people read this, and of them nobody actually cares if this goes away. I've obviously been lax in posting lately, and getting regular updates to the website is pretty much the last thing on my mind. Was hoping that a few things would pan out but it turns out I just don't have the time to keep this thing updated the way I want to.

As a result, effective immediately I won't be posting to the blog until the new version of the site is released. I had promised a new version and hoped to release it by the end of this season. Unfortunately the more I look at it the less likely that's going to happen.

The team has grown a lot since 2004, and we have a pretty decent online presence as a result. There are a lot of players, past and present, friends and family and people who just plain like us for no apparent reason. Surprisingly there are more than I thought. And this website simply does them no justice. There's a lot of stuff to look at and read, but at the end of the day the site is essentially an information-only mash-up of really outdated code that I threw together in half a week.

So even though I enjoy writing in the blog to make people laugh, cry, hate or whatever other emotions there might be, I think it's in the best interest of everyone that I dedicate myself to rebuilding the website in a more interactive form that can easily handle the massive amount of information we have here.

Until then, this blog is going to be pretty quiet. Hope you all understand.

this is awesome

A challenge

Posted by chaas 01.25.12 - 1:17:00 pm

I challenge all you ugly beardless freaks to grow your beard until the end of the world is upon us. Do it because you can't be cool without a sweet beard. Wouldn't want the Dragons Faithful to be uncool when the end archives.

Think I'll change the team name to the Dragonbears. Bears are badass and they will tear your head right the fuck off. The only thing scarier than bears is bears on motorcycles with scuba divers shooting machine guns from the sidecar. This is the scariest thing you will ever see:

speaking of awesome pictures, I found this one in my picture library. Courtesy of John Boob.

How great is that.

I got 20 minutes to kill and why not throw a blog post at the internet while it's still here. I can hear your collective groaning through my headset, people. But tonight begets a serious post.

So a lot of you have probably heard about SOPA and PIPA, two acts in congress right now which have been brought to the floor by Senators and Representatives who have been swayed by lobbyists for RIAA. A lot of RIAA members have since backed away from the act, because it's detrimental to the growth of the internet, which everyone can agree is bad.

If SOPA or PIPA pass the way they are worded today then we can say goodbye to Google, Facebook, Twitter, Youtube, Wikipedia, and basically every semblance of the internet that we have today. And as for any new search engines, start-up internet firms or other new companies? Well, good luck if you link to anything you don't own the copyright for because the Government can shut you down.

Now, piracy is a real problem because it exists. The RIAA wants to claim some of the money lost to piracy and make itself more profitable. There's not much to blame there, but SOPA and PIPA are not the way to do it. Today Wikipedia shut down their english version for 24 hours, and many other websites did the same. I didn't black out the Dragons site because, quite frankly, who gives a fuck about the dragons site outside the dragons and a handful of like-minded folk. But I blacked out some of my other, higher-trafficked sites because it's an important cause.

So if you read this and like the internet as it is, go talk to your senator or representative. If you can't in person, make a phone call. If you can't do that, send an email, or google one of the many online petitions and sign it. If you don't want to lose the internet as we know it, sound off to your congressmen.

Sorry for being serious. I'll make up for it by being a dick tomorrow.

Almost Friday

I've been pretty busy trying to figure out wordpress as an entity. And so far the only damn thing I've learned is it's a complex mess of pseudologic that goes against everything I know, and I think it might be a racist. Therefore, wordpress is stupid and I hate it. Therefore, the update will not be coming nearly as fast as that four-day push through that I managed a while back. Expect it sometime in June, maybe. Frustrating, and I don't have nearly enough death metal to get me through this.

Is everybody in Montreal out of their fucking minds? They were all kinds of crazy regards to the coaching change, and now they traded their best forward for a puck bag. And to think, if Eick hadn't lost the puck bag last season I would have Mike Camalleri as a slave.... Opportunity missed I guess.

Haven't felt like myself for a couple days so I think I'm gonna go ahead and pass out. Tomorrow I have some things to do, and then Saturday night we'll have some pretty terrible hockey. Greyhounds at 8, Dragons at 9. Good news, Al and Chris will be there. We'll see how things go with some extra players and a little more speed.

The Canadian national anthem sounds stupid when compared to the USA's. Not that I care for national anthems particularly, but after hearing them back to back I can say ours is, obviously, better than Canada's.

Speaking of Canada, what the fuck is wrong with the Canadiens organization? Fire a coach, hire a unilingual coach, apologize for said hiring because he doesn't speak french, then ship off your best player for a couple scrubs to the team he left to sign with yours. Typical Montreal. Buncha stupids.

That's good enough for tonight. See you all Saturday.
